Recycling Presentation

14th May 2025

As part of our World Around Us topic this term, Mrs Wilson’s class has been learning about litter and recycling.

Today, we were very fortunate to have a visit from Orlaith Quinn, the Recycling and Data Officer for Cookstown District Council. Orlaith spoke to the children about the various types of materials they might find in their homes and explained which of these can be recycled.

It was fascinating to learn that recycled paper and card can be transformed into paper plates, cups, and bags. We also discovered that cans can be made into parts for aeroplanes and other types of transport. Orlaith explained that materials which are not recycled are now often burned to generate electricity, rather than being sent to landfill sites.

Let’s all try to remember to reduce, reuse, and recycle to help protect our environment for the future!
