Practical Measuring P4/5
Today Primary 4 and Primary 5 pupils took their learning outside for a hands-on maths activity focused on estimation and measurement.
Primary 4 pupils explored the concept of estimation by using their own feet to measure objects in the playground. They worked in pairs and small groups, estimating how many foot-lengths it would take to measure various objects, then checking their guesses by walking heel-to-toe and counting carefully. It was a fantastic way to combine movement with maths, and the children enjoyed comparing their results and discussing why their estimates varied.
Meanwhile, Primary 5 pupils, used rulers to measure objects and distances. They practised estimating lengths first, then used their rulers to check the accuracy of their predictions.
Both classes showed great enthusiasm and teamwork throughout the activity. It was wonderful to see maths brought to life in such an engaging and active way!
