Meet Sintayehu - Our Sponsored Child

29th Jan 2026

Sponsored Child

We were delighted to welcome Danny from Stand by Me to school this morning. Danny spoke to all our pupils about the incredible work the charity does to support children in some of the poorest parts of the world. During his visit, he introduced us to Sintayehu, the child Coagh Primary School will be sponsoring over the next few years.

The School Council decided that this is where some of the money donated at the School Christmas Concert should be sent and we are delighted to provide sponsorship for Sintayehu for 2026 and will do so again each year going forward.

About Stand by Me

Stand by Me works in Ethiopia, where famine, HIV/AIDS, and extreme poverty mean millions of children live without access to education or basic care. The charity partners with local communities to provide children with a high-quality education, daily nutritious meals, medical support, and a nurturing environment. Through schools such as Bethany School, Stand by Me now provides hundreds of children with free education, food, healthcare, and family support, helping them break the cycle of poverty and build a brighter future.

Meet Sintayehu

Sintayehu is 6 years old and lives with her mother and twin sister in a rented one-room mud house. Their living conditions are extremely poor. Her mother works as a daily labourer, taking on laundry and small jobs for local residents, but her income is very limited and often not enough to provide food and essentials.

Sintayehu’s father left before she and her sister were born.

Thanks to sponsorship through Stand by Me, Sintayehu has now been accepted into Bethany School, where she will-

  • Receive a good education
  • Enjoy nutritious meals
  • Have access to medical care
  • Receive emotional and family support
  • Grow up in a nurturing, safe environment

Sintayehu is full of enthusiasm and joy. She is lively, curious, and friendly, and she loves learning and playing with her friends. She especially enjoys running and playing on the swing. One day, she hopes to become a teacher.

Her joyful nature and eagerness to learn shine through in everything she does.

We are proud to support Sintayehu and to partner with Stand by Me in making a real difference in her life and the lives of many other children.
