Exploring White Light
Primary 4 &5 have been learning about white light and how it contains all the colours of the rainbow. To make this lesson fun we carried out an exciting experiment using skittles!
The Experiment
- We placed colourful skittles in a circle on a plate
- We poured warm water over them
- As the water dissolved the sugary coating, the colours spread out and mixed.
What we discovered
The colours from the skittles blended together, showing us that when colours mix, they create white light. At the end of the experiment, the skittles were left looking white- just like the concept we were exploring.
Why This Happens
White light is made up of all the colours combined. Our skittles experiment was a fun way to see how colours interact and reinforce what we learned about light and colour.
