Coagh Primary School Shines at Sentinus Northern Ireland Finals

4th Jun 2025

Today, two talented teams from Coagh Primary School proudly represented our school at the Sentinus Northern Ireland Finals for the K’nex and STEM Construction Challenges—and what a day it was!

Cooper and Daniel took part in the STEM Construction Challenge, where they were tasked with designing and building an air-powered vehicle using a specific set of materials. Their creativity and problem-solving skills were on full display as they successfully completed the challenge and demonstrated their working model to the judges.

Darren and Micah competed in the K’nex Challenge, where their brief was to construct a working drawbridge. Not only did they meet the challenge, but they also impressed the judges with their attention to detail and the functionality of their final design.

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Darren and Micah were crowned the Northern Ireland K’nex Challenge Winners. The judges praised their innovative approach and the precision of their construction.

We are incredibly proud of both teams for their hard work, enthusiasm, and innovation. A special congratulations to Darren and Micah for their outstanding achievement as Northern Ireland champions.

There’s no doubt—the future of STEM is bright at Coagh Primary School!

About the Sentinus Challenges

The Sentinus Primary Construction Challenge is a hands-on, design-and-build competition aimed at pupils in Years 5 to 7. Working in pairs, pupils use K’nex kits to solve real-world engineering problems. The STEM Construction Challenge, designed for Years 6 and 7, involves designing and building a solution using basic technology materials within a set time.

Both challenges promote teamwork, creativity, and STEM learning in a fun and engaging way, making this a prestigious and exciting opportunity for young engineers.
