Qualifying Tournament for the McCloy (Girls) and Pearson (Boys) Hockey Cups

27th Mar 2019

Coagh travelled to Omagh for the regional qualifying tournament with one girls and one boys team entered. There was a large number of teams entered and the level of competition was very good.

The girls team which consisted of Casey, Cody, Ruby, Aimee, Nicole, Lily, Leah and Sarah played five matches. They only lost one game (against run of play!) but unfortunately they were unable to convert enough of the numerous chances they created in each match and finished up with four draws. Nicole got her name on the scoresheet in the first match. This was a great effort by the girls and on a different day they could easily have made it to the semi final stages.

The boys team was made up of Daniel, Jayden, Toby, Noah, Robbie, Ben and Joshua. They began the tournament with three impressive wins and a draw. Next up was Moneymore and unfortunately the boys lost a close match. The final group match was against Derrygonelly and it finished 1:1. This ensured the boys made it to the semi final stage where they faced Derrygonelly again. After extra time the boys won 2:1 with two excellent goals from Robbie. The final was against Moneymore, which ended 0:0 in normal time before Moneymore won it 1:0 in extra time. Goal scorers were: Robbie (9 goals), Ben (2 goals) and Noah (2 goals).

A special mention goes to Daniel who was named 'Player of the Tournament'. Well done!   Fantastic play from both the Boys and Girls.

The Boys now progress to the NI finals in Belfast of the Pearson Cup in a few weeks time.
